When Might it be Time for a Change of Tyres?
In many cases, flat tyres can be patched and repaired by our trained automotive technicians. But one reason why you might need to invest in a new set, is that the damage is extensive enough to be too dangerous to repair; damage to key areas such as the structural walls of the tyres fall within this category. Not only is it very dangerous to drive on low tread tyres – which is an argument for being proactive and replacing them before they run so low – it’s also illegal, and you could be subject to fines and points on your licence. While most tyres have an indicator which will make it clear when their tread is lacking, you can also test with a 20p coin. Simply place a 20p coin into the tread grooves of your tyres, and if the outer border is hidden, you’re above that legal minimum.
